Our Story

Serving Summerdale and Surrounding Communities since 1968, our mission at Baldwin Animal Clinic is to help your pets live happier, healthier lives by providing exceptional quality medical and surgical care in a compassionate environment. 

What began as a vision for modern, state-of-the-art veterinary care has grown into a full-service veterinary hospital, boarding facility, and doggie day camp, serving Summerdale and surrounding areas.  

Throughout our growth, we’ve remained committed to ensuring pets and their families receive individual attention and customized treatment plans in a comfortable, caring environment.

Dr. Timothy Stewart

Veterinarian

Dr. Tim Stewart grew up on a dairy farm in North Alabama where he gained years of practical experience in the care of cattle and horses. He graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He has been practicing equine in the South Alabama and Northwest Florida area for over three decades.

Dr. Tara Riddick

Dr. Tara Riddick

Veterinarian, Large Animal Surgeon

Dr. Tara Riddick grew up in a suburb of Memphis, Tennessee, where she rode horses and became involved in the West Tennessee Hunter/Jumper Association. After high school, she attended Mississippi State University, where she earned both her undergraduate degree in biological engineering and her veterinary degree. During veterinary school, she became interested in pursuing specialty training and completed a one-year rotating internship in equine medicine and surgery at Louisiana State University.

Following her internship, Dr. Riddick moved across the country to complete a one-year large animal fellowship at Oregon State University. At the end of her fellowship, she was invited to stay at OSU for a three-year residency in large animal surgery. In 2015, Dr. Riddick passed her specialty examination, becoming a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Dr. Riddick enjoys working on a variety of cases, especially lameness and performance injuries. She also enjoys the challenge of both minor and complex surgeries, including arthroscopy, laparoscopy, wound reconstruction, angular limb correction, sinus and dental surgery, as well as a variety of other procedures.

At home, Dr. Riddick enjoys spending time with her two cats and her mixed-breed dog, Roxy. With Roxy in town whenever possible, she enjoys riding, camping, and hiking. She also enjoys photography, drawing, and painting.

Dr. Cecelia Johnston

Veterinarian

Dr. Cecelia Johnston is a North Carolina native who now calls Alabama home. She earned her undergraduate degree in Animal Science from North Carolina State University before attending veterinary school at Auburn University, where she served as an officer in both the American Association of Bovine Practitioners and the American Association of Equine Practitioners.

After veterinary school, Dr. Johnston practiced large animal medicine in rural North Carolina. Her professional interests include bovine herd management, reproductive services, and equine lameness. However, you’ll find her working on creatures of all sizes here!

Outside the clinic, Dr. Johnston continues her lifelong passion for horseback riding, having grown up riding Hunter/Jumpers before transitioning to Eventing during college. She regularly competes in horse trials and enjoys spending time at the beach with her husband and their three dogs. She also enjoys hiking, camping, and all things outdoors.

Dr. Lauren Leger

Veterinarian

Dr. Lauren Ryan Leger earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine before completing an equine internship at Elgin Equine Hospital in Elgin, Texas. During her internship, she gained hands-on experience working with high-level sport and performance horses, with a focus on breeding, lameness, and internal medicine.

Following her internship, Dr. Leger joined a mixed animal practice in Chipley, Florida, where she enjoyed caring for a variety of animals before returning closer to her hometown of Grand Bay, Alabama. Her professional interests include large animal medicine, particularly equine breeding and internal medicine, as well as bovine and caprine herd management.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Leger enjoys spending time with her family, including her furry family members, working on the family farm, and spending time on the water.

Dr. Analynn Varva

Veterinarian

Dr. Analynn Varva was born and raised in Norman, Oklahoma. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Oklahoma State University, graduating summa cum laude, before completing her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the same institution.

During her training, she gained experience in both small- and large-animal practices, with a particular focus on equine medicine. Her professional interests include equine sports medicine, canine behavior, and integrative approaches to care, and she is currently pursuing certifications in canine and equine acupuncture.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Varva enjoys dog training, horseback riding, and visiting the beach. She actively competes with her dog, Nyla, in dock diving, barn hunting, and scent work.

Dr. Casey Busby

Veterinarian

Dr. Casey Busby earned her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from Mississippi State University before completing her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Auburn University. She is excited to serve the Alabama Gulf Coast and brings a strong foundation in modern veterinary medicine.

Dr. Busby’s approach focuses on providing compassionate, comprehensive care while building lasting relationships with pet owners and supporting the long-term health and well-being of their pets.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Busby enjoys gardening, pottery, traveling, and spending time with her dogs, Kate and Jax.
